| Michael Thurlby - About |
Michael Thurlby bought The Woolpack in 2007 with the idea of renovating it in the future whilst he concentrated on the other 6 sites he owned all going through their own renovations. Originally a farmer from Tallington, Michael found his passion for running pubs in 1993, with a pub called The Black Bull, in Stamford, he then rented the Hare and Hounds in Greatford before moving on to The Five Horseshoes pub in the Lincolnshire village of Barholm. Since then he has opened a wide variety of different venues that can all be accessed via this website.
More recently he has found a passion for restoring old buildings into pubs. In 2006 he opened the highly acclaimed Tobie Norris based in Stamford, combining good real ales and fine wines with stonebaked pizzas and other dishes in beautiful historic surroundings.
After the success of the Tobie Norris he decided to stamp the same mark on Newark with The Woolpack, now named The Prince Rupert. In The Prince Rupert you will find amongst other beers Ufford Ales which is his own micro-brewery based at The White Hart in Ufford producing a wide range of beers, along with fine wines imported by himself and a good friend of his and Master of Wine, John Atkinson. With the support of Tony and Heidi we have the future of a very warm friendly environment for everyone to enjoy.
