Refurbishment Gallery
The careful refurbishment of The Woolpack into The Prince Rupert took over 18 months of hard work. To turn proprietor Michael Thurlby's vision into reality involved a great deal of patience and drive combined with careful planning, coordination and cooperation from English Heritage, Newark Council and a number of specialist contractors who all worked together to create the establishment that is enjoyed today.
The slide show below is a visual journey of the transformation from The Woolpack to The Prince Rupert, including the discovery and restoration of many of the fantastic 15th century architectural features. Great traditional British pubs are not built overnight, they are a labour of love, steeped in history, full of stories and thriving with character.
